“Dogwood Jamboree celebrating its TENTH year of Production.
The Palestine Dogwood Jamboree will celebrate its tenth year of production on March 21st. “The show has been a tremendous success and has served to provide a great venue of family entertainment” said Dan Manuel producer. We have been blessed through the previous nine years with wonderful sponsors and participation from Palestine, and actually all over Texas. Numerous tour buses come to the Jamboree for each production. The Dogwood Jamboree will present “Moments To Remember” on Saturday night March 21st at 7 P.M. “The Dogwood Jamboree was first conceived some ten years ago and from that first performance back in 2005 each show has just gotten better,” stated Dan Manuel, producer of the show. The Jamboree will take place this year during the Annual Dogwood Trails festival. The show will feature “Pearl and the Polka Dots” from the Dallas area. This trio is very popular in the Dallas and surrounding area. They have just released their new Cd which is very popular. They have entertained at numerous venues in and out of the state.
Also featured on the show will be “His Master’s Praise” a singing group from Missouri. They have produced numerous albums and have won many awards nationally. They perform songs by the “Eagles”, “Statler Brothers”, and “The Gatlin Brothers” Others who will be performing on the show are: Joe Hancock, Hal Roper, Lori Bishop, George Lester, Jack and Neil Hall, Mike Kellogg and band members W.J. Copeland, Mike Kellogg and Sissy Perry. Band members are: Elton Phelps, Billy Lane, Joe Hancock, Mike Kellogg, Shelia Fowler, Neil Hall, W.J. Copeland, Hal Roper, and Rick Wheat. Sandy Singleterry (Flo), “Uncle Joshua”, The Dogwood Jamboree singers and Dan Manuel. Three young artists will compete for “Dogwood Jamboree Talent Search Winner.” “Over the last five years we have given the young people of the area an opportunity to perform and in some way help them to advance their music ambitions.” said Manuel. A number of young people auditioned for the show last year and the judges selected those with the highest score to perform on the 2014 venues. Our winner of the Jamboree talent search last year was Kadie Lynn of Mabank, Texas. The winner on March 21st will advance to the finals in December of this year and will compete for the title “Artist of the Year 2015”. Others who have performed on the stage of the Jamboree advance to bigger venues. Auditions for the June show will be held in early June and auditions for the August Jamboree will be held in mid-July. Those wishing to audition can call 903-724-2556 or 903-729-7080. Those auditioning for the talent search contest must be eighteen years or younger. There is no entry fee for auditioning. Those competing on the show that night will be selected by a panel of judges and audience vote. Local artists will take the stage with those from other cities all over the state of Texas. The show is sponsored by local businesses and is designed as “family entertainment”.
The show promises to be a memorable event and one that will attract a lot of folks. The theme for the show in June is “Lone Star Country”. “It is amazing how many people come from the metroplex area, Houston and other parts of the state for the Jamboree. “Many people travel to Branson, Mo. or Nashville, Tennessee for similar productions, and from the reviews we have received in numerous country music publications, the quality of the Jamboree and the performers are equal in many respects,” according to Manuel. “We want to encourage those who have never attended one of the shows, to make a special effort to bring the family out and enjoy the music, artists and comedy that fills the civic center during the evening performance and vote for your favorite artist in the talent search contest.” Children often appear on the show as well as adults of varying ages. “Many of the people who attend are previous attendees. They love the show and return and bring friends with them,” stated Manuel. “This is sure to be one of the best performances of the Jamboree and we encourage Palestine and the surrounding area to join us along with visitors for various cities and states as we celebrate our tenth year of production. “I’ve always said, if you ever attend one performance, you will want to come back as you listen to the songs that classic country music fans have listened to through the years,” Manuel said. The show starts at 7 P.M. and doors open at 6 P.M. At the intermission door prizes donated by local merchants and businesses will be given away. Advanced tickets for the show can be purchased at Cavender’s, Dogwood Diner, Bishop’s Brisket House, Hometown Pharmacy or by calling 903-729-7080 or 903-724-2556.
