DOGWOOD JAMBOREE

        Press Release

The Palestine Civic Center is the place to be on Saturday night June 22nd.  The Palestine Dogwood Jamboree will present  “All American Country”   The Dogwood Jamboree entered its ninth year of production back in March of this year.    The  show  in June  will feature  “The Texans”  from Branson, Mo.  The Texans have been in Branson with their own show for the last twenty years.  They also  performed at their dinner theatre in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  “We are so happy to bring this Branson group to Palestine for the first time.” said Dan Manuel.  Jake Penrod will also be featured on the show that evening.   Jake is a Hank Williams impersonator and is often featured  on stage  in performances of “An Evening With Hank”.  “We have been requested to bring him back to the Jamboree and we look forward to having him on the show in June”, said Dan Manuel producer of the Jamboree.     Others who will be performing that night are: Joe Hancock, Sissy Perry, Neal Hall, W.J. Copeland,  Hal Roper,  Tammy Bostick, George Lester and Manuel.

Three young artists (who will be selected in preliminary competition) will compete for the Dogwood Jamboree Talent Search for June  and the winner will advance to the finals on Dec. 7th of this year.   “These young people along with others are talented and we are happy to have them on the show.” said Manuel.  A number of young people auditioned for the show last year and the judges selected those with the highest score to perform on the 2012 venues.   Other young people who have performed on the stage of the Jamboree have  advanced to bigger venues.  Auditions for the August show  will be held in last July   and auditions for the October  Jamboree will be held in mid-September. Those wishing to audition can call 903-729-5611 or 903-729-7080.  Those auditioning for the talent search contest must be eighteen years or younger. There is no entry fee for auditioning.

The show promises to be a memorable event and one that will attract a lot of folks.  “We have a lot of folks coming into town for this show” said Manuel.  The theme for the show in June is “All American Country”.   It is amazing how many people come from the metroplex area , Houston and other parts of the state for the Jamboree.” said Manuel   “Many people travel to Branson, Mo. or Nashville, Tennessee for shows that cost a lot more in money and travel time, and  from the reviews we have received in numerous country music magazines like American Profile, Coast To Coast Country Music Magazine, the In Magazine, etc, the quality of the Jamboree and the performers are equal in many respects,” Manuel also said.   “We are glad that we were able to secure the “Texans” from Branson to be with us and  if you are looking for a good time and great country music, this is the place to be on Saturday night June 22nd. Come  bring the family out and enjoy the music, artists and comedy that fills the civic center during the evening performance and vote for your  favorite artist  in the talent search contest.” said Manuel .  Those competing on the show that night will be selected by a panel of judges and audience vote.  Local artists will take the stage with those from other cities all over the state of Texas.  The show is sponsored by local businesses and is designed as “family entertainment”.  Children often appear on the show as well as adults of varying ages.  Many of the people who attend are previous attendees.  They love the show and return and bring friends with them.  Band Members on the show are:  W.J. Copeland, Shelia Weaver,  Mike Kellogg,  Bobby Perry, Billy Lane, Neal Hall,  and Rick Wheat.  Sandy Singleterry (Flo) is our featured comedian. “This is sure to be one of the best performances of the Jamboree and we encourage Palestine and the surrounding area to join us along with visitors for various cities and states as we continue in our 9th  year of production.   I’ve always said, if you ever attend one performance, you will want to come back as you listen to the songs that classic country music fans have listened to through the years,” Manuel said.  The show starts at 7 P.M. and doors open at 6 P.M.   Tickets can be purchased in advance at Cavendar’s, Hometown Pharmacy, Dogwood Diner, Bishops Bar-B-Que or by calling 903- 729-7080.  The advanced ticket price is $12.50 per adult and $6.00 per child 6 years through 10 years.
